4 Fun Ways to Celebrate Father’s Day This Year

Schedule a Visit

In 1972, President Richard Nixon made Father’s Day a federal holiday. Although it was created 58 years after the first Mother’s Day, the holiday is a special time to celebrate the fathers and grandfathers in our lives. In honor of this year’s Father’s Day on Sunday, June 18th, try one of these activities and spend memorable quality time with the fathers– or father figures– in your life.

Listen to live music

There’s nothing like enjoying live music on a summer night, especially with friends and family. Many restaurants have live bands on the weekend and there are plenty festivals to attend during the summer featuring all styles of music. Senior living communities also often organize group outings to local music concerts, so seniors can enjoy a night of live music without the worry of transportation!

DIY projects with Dad

Working together on a “do-it-yourself” project is a great way to be productive and have fun at the same time! Even grandchildren can join in on the fun with easy projects, like a homemade birdfeeder or a mini golf course.

Enjoy the great outdoors

Since Father’s Day is in the middle of summer, it’s a great time to enjoy outdoor activities. Try taking your father out fishing, planning a picnic lunch, going on a peaceful nature walk, or even just feeding the ducks at a local pond. Senior living communities often feature paved walking trails that are perfect for seniors and grandchildren. No matter what, remember to pack plenty of water and sunscreen on hot, sunny days!

Visit a museum

Take a trip to a local art or history museum and enjoy learning about different cultures and history. Many museums also offer discounts for seniors, making this Father’s Day idea fun and affordable for the entire family.
