On April 8, Barb Emrick, MS, RN, PCHS, CCP of Kettering Center for Heart and Vascular Health came to Bethany Village and spoke with more than 30 residents and community members. She discussed silent factors of heart disease and stroke, possible prevention of heart disease and various screenings for early detection.
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in both men and women regardless of race or income. High blood pressure, high LDL cholesterol and smoking are key risks factors. Nearly half of the population has at least one of these risk factors.
Prevention is paramount indicating that individuals should complete screenings that are available and work with their physicians. “Years Ahead” is a program created by the Kettering Center for Heart and Vascular Health that helps to provide education, discounts on screenings and many other benefits.
