Horticultural Therapy (AKA: Gardening!)

Gardening is a therapeutic activity that many older adults find incredibly rewarding. From planting flowers, to growing vegetables, to simply enjoying God’s handiwork, gardening is a hands-on activity that promotes physical exercise, enhances fine motor skills, and fosters a connection with nature. 

At Bethany Village, residents are encouraged to engage in gardening, whether through tending to personal garden plots or participating in community gardening projects. Horticultural therapy has been shown to reduce stress, improve mood, and provide a sense of accomplishment. 

Movies & Entertainment

Watching movies can evoke memories, stimulate the mind, and provide an opportunity for relaxation. It can also be a social activity and act as a way for people to bond over their favorite films and discover new ones. 

The on-site movie theater at Bethany Village is a popular spot during the summer, offering a cool retreat from the heat and a chance to enjoy classic films, new releases, and special screenings. Movie nights provide entertainment and a social gathering point for residents to come together and enjoy a shared experience.

Music Therapy

Year-round, Bethany Village Music Therapists offer senior living residents the chance to participate in music sessions, sing-alongs, and even dance nights. Our music therapy sessions are designed to be inclusive and enjoyable for everyone, providing a joyful and therapeutic experience that resonates with all participants. 

Low-Impact Physical Activities

As we age, low-impact physical activities are a safe, essential way to maintain fitness without putting undue stress on the body. An early morning walk along scenic paths is a great chance to enjoy the beauty of nature.

These activities are designed to improve cardiovascular health, flexibility, and muscle strength while minimizing the risk of injury. Our fitness center hosts a variety of low-impact exercise classes for residents, including PACE (People with Arthritis Can Exercise), Wii Bowling, and Fit Beat. These exercises help keep seniors active, healthy, and engaged in a supportive and enjoyable setting.

Outdoor Hobbies

Exploring new hobbies such as photography or birdwatching can be incredibly fulfilling for seniors. Outdoor hobbies offer both mental stimulation and a deeper connection with nature.
