We know this time as the time of celebration of our nation’s Independence through our July Fourth celebrations. This is also a time when we can celebrate that God is a part of our celebrations. Sure, there is a separation between church and state, but there is no separation between God and state.
Look at the words of most of our great patriotic songs. Sometimes you don’t have to go beyond the titles, like with “God Bless America.” Other times you have to go all the way into the last verse, such as with our national anthem, “The Star Spangled Banner,” which boldly proclaims that we should “praise the power that has made and preserved us a nation” and reminds us that our motto is “In God is our trust.” Especially in this election year, when this November we are going to choose the leaders of our nation for the next four years, we need to count on God’s presence and love for our nation in the months ahead. Now is the time to start praying for the candidates and ask for God’s guidance through-out the political process.
Let’s make them more than just words in our songs, because God will bless America and we can always trust in our God. Have a great celebration of America this Fourth of July, knowing that our God is not separated from us at all!
