As part of National Nutrition Month 2014, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics encourages everyone to “Enjoy the Taste of Eating Right.” Good nutrition is vital to health and well-being for everyone and enhances a healthy community.
One focus of National Nutrition Month addresses how we maintain interest and motivation to make the effort to “Eat Right?” The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics “encourages everyone to explore new foods and flavors, keeping taste and nutrition on your plate at every meal.”
“When taste is the most influential factor driving what consumers eat, it is important that we find the balance between choosing the foods we like with those that provide the nutrients we need,” said registered dietitian nutritionist and Academy President Dr. Glenna McCollum. “This year’s ‘Enjoy the Taste of Eating Right’ theme reinforces that the two choices are not mutually exclusive.”
Cathy Bourquin, Registered Dietician, states, “It is our goal of Dining Services at Bethany Village to provide meals that taste good, add variety and enjoyment and also meet the nutritional needs of our residents. Choosing and preparing foods that satisfy a diverse and discerning population is our challenge we strive to meet,” she continues.
“To address this challenge, our managers, nutrition professionals and staff of Vista Place, Homestead and Linden House Dining Services meet with residents to get input, attend food shows to sample new products to add to menus, plan a variety of events where food is prepared to order, and take cues from popular restaurants as to what is trending” adds Bourquin.
